OVERVIEW
The City of Fort Collins Recreation Department creates exceptional summer camp programs to serve an exceptional community. Our programs are an opportunity for children to learn new skills, find new passions, stay active, and connect with their peers and others in the community. Assistant Site Directors in our licensed childcare, summer day camp program Camp FunQuest are responsible for working alongside Site Directors to oversee the on-site, daily operation of camp and the overall planning and implementation of activities for children ages 4-16 yrs.

Assistant Site Directors must enjoy spending time with children, creating empowering activities, serve as positive role models to the younger generation, and be a strong leader to support and supervise camp staff. This position reports to the Recreation Coordinator.

WORK SCHEDULE
This is a seasonal position with training beginning May 24th. Camp begins June 2nd, 2021 and ends August 13th, 2021. The work schedule will vary dependent on program. Summer camp programs occur M-F between 7:30am-5:30pm, with occasional required staff meetings held on weeknight evenings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

– Assists with coordination of all aspects of the day camp program including, but not limited to, participant registrations, weekly activities, field trips, enrichment classes/programs, and special events.
– Supports camp counselors with organizing and implementation of daily activity schedules, managing participant rosters and camp room management strategies.
– Provides on-site supervision of all camp age groups, ensuring participant safety and age-appropriate activities.
– Oversees daily informal communications with families regarding camper expectations and behaviors, conducting counseling sessions with children and/or their families to find appropriate resolutions to behavior challenges when needed.
– Communicates regularly and effectively with facility staff and management to oversee room scheduling needs, ensuring essential set-up and take-down of all-day camp program reservations.
– May be required to drive 15 passenger vans to transport children with provided training.
– Oversees camper daily health screens and checking participants in and out of camp using electronic tablets and software programs.
– Maintains knowledge of participants whereabouts at all times by conducting regular head counts and updating written and electronic attendance rosters.
– Responsible for maintaining camp supply inventory and submitting activity supply requests to Site Directors as needed.
– Attends weekly staff meetings as needed and assists with planning and leading meeting topics and trainings.
– Assists with providing camp counselors with regular performance feedback and may participate in end of summer performance evaluation meetings.
– Adheres to and implements City of Fort Collins policies and procedures, including any state or federal regulations for licensed school-aged day camp programs.
– Represent the City in a positive, professional and healthy manner.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is not directly responsible for the supervision of City employee(s). Assistant Site Directors will assist the Recreation Coordinator with supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable law which may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Minimum age is 21

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Recreation, Elementary or Early Childhood Education, or Human Development & Family Studies, AND three years (5460 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable experience since attaining the age of eighteen (18), in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children preferred. At least six months (920 hours) of full-time or equivalent part-time satisfactory and verifiable experience with school-age children required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
· Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record
· Must past City background check and pre-employment drug screen
· Must receive clearance from state and federal fingerprinting, and child abuse reporting background check
· CPR and First Aid Certification must be current or acquired within one month of hire
· Must complete 15 hours of required pre-service trainings and courses before working with children

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to communicate effectively with children, parents, staff and the general public. Must be able to effectively give directions to children between the ages of 4-16.

REASONING ABILITY
Must possess the ability to solve and implement practical solutions to problems, to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form, and to foresee and initiate proactive measures to ensure program quality, customer service and participant safety.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to crawl, kneel, jump, run stoop, crouch, reach with hands and arms. The employee must have the ability to lift up to 40 lbs., lead children in extended periods of exercise and movement, must be able to control children in both an indoor and outdoor environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to various weather conditions including rain, snow, wind, hail and heat. The employee may be exposed to allergy causing conditions (i.e. cottonwood, dust, animals, etc.). The employee may be exposed to a variety of childhood illnesses. The noise level in the work environment can be at high extremes at times.

The employee must be able to work effectively in an environment of noisy, happy, and sometimes distraught children. The employee must possess high tolerance for the characteristic behavior of children in indoor and outdoor recreation settings, and work effectively in high stress situations. The employee should be flexible with the demands and interests of children.
