Referrals for Children with Special Needs


Finding child care that meets your needs can be challenging for all parents. When your child has special needs, your job can feel even more overwhelming.

The Mile High United Way child care referral program staff is available to support you through the process of finding child care. They offer “enhanced” referrals for all parents who are struggling to find care for a child with special needs.

This enhanced service includes:

  • Spending more time with you to ensure they fully understand your child’s needs
  • Contacting child care providers to confirm vacancies
  • Talking with the child care providers who have vacancies to help them decide whether they might be able meet your child’s needs
  • Staying in touch with you until you have found care or all options have been exhausted
  • Supporting the child care provider’s ability to meet your child’s needs by connecting him or her with additional resources
