Book Club for Child Care Providers

LAEYC in partnership with Poudre River Public Library District is starting a book club, which will be held on the third Saturday of each month. While it is aimed primarily at childcare providers, it is open to anyone who wants to come. It is best to read the book before coming, but not mandatory. Childcare providers will receive a certificate for 2 training hours for each discussion they attend. Please see the flier below for more information.

Updated Immunization Requirements for Child Care Programs

We want to provide a reminder of a few immunization requirements and hope you’ll contact me if you have any questions or need any clarification:

• The Child Care Immunization Course is currently being updated and the 2012-13 school year edition will be ready for you July 1, 2012. For those of you interested in taking the course we encourage you to take the 2.5 credit hour course electronically as it will provide your certificate immediately upon completing the test. You may want to download the hard copy version to keep as a reference and here’s the link:

For the Course Information flyer that provides instruction for the electronic version of the Course:

• PCV13- an addition to the required immunization schedule for your kids for the 2012-13 School Year: PCV13 (to prevent pneumococcal disease) is required for those kids through 4 years of age who have not received all their required doses before the age of 2 years. The Immunization Quick Reference Guide will help you figure out what vaccines, including the PCV13, are required at specific ages.

• Parent Letters. Last year, the Colorado Legislature required child cares, preschools and school K – 12th grades to provide letters to parents of enrolled children to update them on both required and recommended immunizations. The Colorado Immunization Program has those letters posted on their website at Here are the direct links to the English and Spanish versions of those letters: and This is a great website that will address parents concerns about vaccines or just provide information about their vaccines to prevent illness.

Immunization schedules are confusing and we at the Colorado Immunization Program want to provide the answers to your questions. Please give me a call or send an email when those questions arise.

Thanks for all you do for the care of Colorado Kids.
